The Breakers Palm Beach
The Breakers Palm Beach is located on 140 acres of breathtaking oceanfront property in the heart of Palm Beach. This is one luxury hotel that is a legend in its own right, and guests keep coming back for more because their expectations are repeatedly exceeded. With a staff of 2,000 and hundreds of millions of dollars spent on continual upgrades and updates, there is no length to which The Breakers Palm Beach won’t go to ensure your stay surpasses previous experiences.
In the late 1890s, just before the turn of the century, industry tycoons and elegant socialites began flocking to the pristine shores of a new destination—a long strip of an island called Palm Beach.
The palatial atmosphere of The Breakers is understandable considering its history. In 1896, oil magnate Henry Flagler built his second Palm Beach Hotel “by the breakers.” Fire burned the original building down in 1925, but Flagler’s heirs went to work re-building it quickly and impeccably; the current structure was modeled after Rome’s Villa Medici.
Year by year, the resort’s reputation grew and word spread, beckoning the glitterati to vacation in Palm Beach year-round. At any given time, the guest register read like a “who’s who” of early 20th-century America: Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Astors, Andrew Carnegie and J.P. Morgan, vacationing alongside US presidents and European nobility.
